Krissy Talking Pictures was an idea Cherry Nin had in 2019. Cherry wanted to be an artist, to get their work out into the world, but didn’t have access to art institutions. They did have access to underground spaces but they were all primarily centered around music - what if video art was more prominent in these spaces? What if a video art label could act as a platform/vehicle for queer artists without access to mainstream art institutions? What if it could serve as an experimental space, one where people could ask and answer questions about art making, meaning making, navigating being an artist in a capitalist world? What if from an underground space, artists could organize together and receive grants, get their peers paid for creative work, lecture at universities? Originally conceived of as a video label, KTP has since served as film + video art organization pushed forward and kept alive by a rotating cast of organizers. KTP has curated screenings, installations, and exhibitions throughout Philadelphia and beyond. They have published zines, DVDs, and newsletters. They are a 2020 recipient of the Leeway Foundation’s Art & Change grant, and have lectured at Haverford College, the Wexner Center for the Arts, and University of Oxford. This website was created to document their work.
